Morgan Dollars

The Morgan silver dollar is a United States dollar coin minted for the purpose to be used as currency.

These iconic silver coins were minted between 1878 and 1904, with a later production in 1921. These coins were minted in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Carson City, New Orleans, and one year in Denver.  There are 96 date and mint varieties with a total mintage of approximately 657 million. But under the Pitman Act of 1918 approximately 270 million Morgan Dollars were melted.

A renowned numismatist in the coin industry estimated the total number of Morgan Dollars in existence ranges from 100 to 200 million.  Most of those coins are circulated since approximately only 10 million coins have been graded between the industry standard grading services PCGS and NGC.  Today Morgan Dollars remains sought after by collectors and investors for their historical significance and eye appeal.
